Derinkuyu Underground City

A multi-level settlement carved underground. It has narrow, enclosed passages; check visiting conditions on the official museum page. Storage rooms, winemaking spaces, wells and worship areas show how a community's needs were accommodated underground. Large circular stones served to close passages from within. The ministry's architectural account highlights rooms beside narrow corridors and ventilation shafts. Reading these spaces together reveals the relationship between air, water, provisions and protection, rather than simply a sequence of chambers.
